Winterworld Australia is skating into WA for the first time and taking over the Sorrento Quay Boardwalk from 24 June – 16 July for 23 days of outdoor ice-skating and spectacular winter wonderland for all ages.
It’s time to put on your winter woollies (yay), get out into the elements and experience the true magic of winter! Winterworld is this July holiday’s most unique experience with its wide range of activities for the young and young at heart.
Winterworld’s ice skating rink will sit over the water on the Sorrento Quay Amphitheatre – ocean views on one side and a cosy, covered family area on the other, with multiple delicious food and beverage options. Many local businesses are offering winter specials, so why not make a full day/night of it! The Amphitheatre protects you from the elements while skate until the stars and over the ocean – this is what dreams are made of!
The Sorrento Quay Boardwalk ice-rink will be open on 24 June until 16 July. Skating sessions kick off at 8:30am every day, with specially designed sessions to nurture the little skaters amongst us, custom made double bladed ice skates perfect for little feet and friendly penguin skating aids.
This year Winterworld Australia is partnering with Sorrento Quay Boardwalk to extend the winter fun throughout the centre. Activities will include custom designed winter inspired shop windows by local visual artist Desiree Crossing, winter fairies and loads more winter fun to still be announced!

The rink is accessible for all, including wheelchairs and ‘wheely friendly’ sessions throughout the season. There are special skates and penguins for tiny tots that will help them to skate with a bit more stability and plenty of late night skate sessions for that perfect first date, or a fun night out with your loved ones.

The spectacular amphitheater at the Sorrento Quay Boardwalk will host the Winterworld outdoor ice-rink. The amphitheater is located directly in front of Subway, Ben & Jerry’s, Dome, Gloria Jeans and more
There is ample parking, a bus stop just a 5-minute walk away and loads of retail and food outlets at the venue.

If you haven’t received your online tickets please start off by checking your junk mail and bank statement to ensure the booking went through. If the session hasn’t already sold out online, we will have tickets available at the box office. Secure a spot online for your chosen session to avoid disappointment and also take advantage of our online discount. Tickets are more expensive from the Box office,
The family ticket will admit two children and two adults, or one adult and three children onto the rink with free skate hire for all four people. Children are 15 years old and under.
We ask that parents use their discretion when buying tickets for the really little ones, you will know your child better than anyone so please gauge their ability on walking, running and other leisure activities.
Generally speaking the youngest skaters are around the two year old mark, please see info on skate sizes below.
You safety and the safety of your little one is paramount, for this reason alone we don’t allow you to skate at any stage of your pregnancy. It’s very easy to fall on an ice-rink and we want you to stay toasty warm and safe.
Winterworld is a family friendly event, suitable for everyone! Young children, families, teens and adults of all ages are encouraged to visit. Sorrento Quay Boardwalk is easily accessible and offers something for everyone.
Winterworld will work in conjunction with the various food, beverage and retail outlets situated on the Sorrento Quay Boardwalk to ensure we keep those tummies full and your thirst quenched.

Skates range from a child’s size 12 to an adult size 13. We also have Double Runners available for the little ones.

Each skating session is in a one-hour block, once you get your skates on and jump on the ice, you’re skating for approximately 50 minutes.
You are more than welcome to bring your family to any of our skating sessions. Day sessions attract mixed ages with a stronger focus on young families and nights tend to attract an older more mature crowd.
If you would like to bring along a little skater we recommend you consider the morning sessions.
Children aged 5 and under must be supervised on the ice at all times by a parent or guardian with a valid ticket.
Not at all! Multiple seating options and local food vendors surround the Amphitheatre at Sorrento Quay Boardwalk; it’s free to spectate and is the perfect place to watch your friends and family skate.
Sorrento Quay Boardwalk has plenty of tasty food, beverage and retail outlets to keep you entertained, warm and cosy.
Please note: non-paying customers cannot access the Ice Rink or Skate Hire area.
We sure do! Simply purchase the tickets to your preferred session and bring your ticket confirmation along with your Companion Card to the box office on the day. We can supply you with the complimentary ticket.

If you are booking a group with multiple wheelchairs please email [email protected] so we can ensure there is enough space during your preferred session or perhaps create a Wheely friendly session for your group.
There is a slight lip on the edge of our rink, however we can supply a small ramp and staff assistance for easy access onto the rink.
For those with little feet and questionable balance, double runner skates will be available. The Double Runners simply strap over the top of your enclosed shoe to keep your child on their feet for a bit longer. Double runners are limited so please arrive early if you require these.
Lucky you, please feel free to bring them along. However all ticket prices do include FREE skate hire and no discounts will be offered if providing your own.
The penguins have waddled their way to the West Coast and are there to help you through the winter. The Penguins are there to help, by having something to keep you stable and to push around the rink. They are more suited for the little ones, although adults are welcome to try and NO, they don’t bite.
A limited number of penguins have made the journey; please book in advance to get your hands on one of our little friends.
The rink barriers also act as a great support for those a little unsure.
Yes, the penguins are a popular aid and there is only a designated amount available per session. You will be notified at time of purchase if the penguins are SOLD OUT and we do suggest selecting an alternative session or brave the cold on your own.
Welcome to a frosty winter over the water, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable, warm outdoor clothing. Don’t forget to keep your fingers and toes warm, that ice rink is chilly!
Please pick your session carefully as all ticket sales are final at the checkout and cannot be changed or cancelled.
However, if for some reason you can no longer attend a session, feel free to surprise a friend and pass your ticket on to someone else. As long as they’re the same price type there are no problems.

We skate rain or shine, if it’s raining we strongly recommend bringing along your wet weather gear and a change of clothes.
The only sessions cancelled are those affected by electrical or severe storms. Your health and safety is our priority, and the decision to cancel a session will be announced at the discretion of the event organisers. This is done as close to your session as possibly to give you the best chance of skating. Weather in Perth can be crazy and changes within minutes.
